Caring for Djiringanj Country
Welcome to the Bega River and Wetlands Landcare (BRAWL)! ๐ฟ๐
We are a passionate community organisation dedicated to restoring and preserving the natural habitat along the Bega River and wetlands. For nearly two decades, BRAWL has undertaken a series of large and small programs to establish thousands of locally-indigenous trees, shrubs and tussock grasses, control weeds and establish refuges for native fauna, including threatened species..
Our initiatives include:
- Regular monthly working bees, where volunteers come together to contribute to the restoration process.
- Fun community tree-planting events, open to everyone who shares our passion for environmental conservation.
Since European occupation, the river has been degraded by erosion, weed invasion and biodiversity loss. In 2006, community members formed BRAWL with the goal of improving the river and wetland environments and helping bring the community back to care for this vital natural resource.
Since then, working with the Bega Valley Shire Council, NSW government, community groups, local primary and high schools and businesses, we have rehabilitated over three kilometers of the river.
BRAWL’s work continues, and weโd love your help. Join us in making a positive impact on the environment! ๐ฑ๐
